Introducing the Essex Orchid Society
Meetings
The Society normally meets once a month from September through to June (except December and January), on the second Saturday of the month, at South Green Memorial Hall, Billericay, CM11 2PR. The Hall is open from 1.30pm with the meeting running from 2.00 until 4.00pm.
Our 2024/25 season is drawing to a close. We have had to make a change to the June meeting, as our booked speaker will be unavailable. Instead, Richard Rolfe will entertain us with the second half of his excellent talk on the Orchids of Costa Rica. You can see the details of our programme here: Meetings...
We always have a Table Show at our meetings, where you are invited and encouraged to bring along your orchids for everyone to admire! See the photos below and a lot more in our Photo Gallery (link below the photos).
Special Lockdown Orchid Shows
We couldn't hold any shows during the lockdowns, and we didn't resume our orchid shows post-pandemic, but instead we created a section on the website to show off some of the plants that might have been exhibited.
We added to this section between early 2020 and late 2022, and it now consists of three pages - early 2020, later 2020 and 2021 into 2022.
You can find the three pages via our Photo Gallery page here: Photo Gallery...
Growing Orchids
Have you ever thought about growing orchids? Do you have one and would like to learn more about this fascinating group of plants? Why not join our friendly group? With members interested in many different types of orchids, from novices to experts, you will be sure to find someone who will help you get started with the type of orchids that you like best.
You don't need a greenhouse; many of our members grow at least some of their plants on a windowsill. If you prefer hardy orchids talk to us about growing in the garden or in cold frames.
